Inspired by the concept of Humans of New York, MovePH launched the #StoryOftheNation in June 2014 to help illustrate the narrative of the Filipino people. MovePH is Rappler’s civic engagement arm and the purpose of the initiative is to go beyond the official lines and well-lacquered keynote presentations. They want to unearth the untold stories of everyday Filipinos through photos submitted by the public from across the country.
As Rappler intern, I was assigned to photograph some people on the street and asked for their thoughts on the Philippine's current situation. They published my photos on their social media.

"The Philippine situation is growing with the presidents’ good economic policies. Employment rates has improved."
- Bonifacio Ramiscal
“The Philippines is still undergoing the development process. We are in the stage of improving when it comes to our resources, but we are still lacking in the distribution of our resources. Our people are still undergoing a hard time to prosper but we have a lot of government organizations that is supporting the growth of our country."
- Blaine Roxas
“The Philippines is a big country with so many big buildings around. The Philippines is clean and beautiful. Filipinos enjoy the peace in this country. We have a good president."
- Lance Daniel D. Aldiano
“For the past 3 years, we have see a lot of progress in macro economics. If you look at the figures of our GDP, the employment rate improves. The main challenges is how you cascade that growth into the grassroots level, how you trickle down the effect. On a macro level, we are doing good. In fact, this is being recongnized by other countries. The main challenge is for the remaining term of the Administration as well as the incoming Administration on how we can sustain the favorable effects down to the macro level."
- Manolo Gonzales
"I don’t see much improvement in the country. Though there may be some developments, it is not that visible. I feel that the government platform has to be simplified for it to be economically viable."
- Nica Puno-Aviles
“The country is in a critical level though it may look good, it is all Administration propaganda. The opposition continues to highlight the wrongdoings in our government. I personally feel that we have a good future in this country. I used to be a supporter of one of senators that is now under detention. I am dismayed with their alleged recent participation in this nationwide scam. I felt let down by these senators who we have placed our trust in and now they are being charged by their wrongdoings.”
- Rodolfo Ulan
“It is quite hard doing multiple jobs to support my family. I barely have time to rest to cope up in sustaining the family’s needs due to the high price of commodities."
- Rey Abian
